RE: Wii 2 in 2010?
The timing isn't right, nor is there a real need for a new system. Upgrades? Sure, by all means. If they want to make the Wii able to handle DVDs and Blurays, have greater storage, sure; that isn't such a bad idea.
To create an all-new console? I don't agree... The Wii features quite a few unique traits. Games and controllers that are based solely on motion tracking or picking up general movements? To my understanding, Wii was the first to incorporate motion sensing in *that* way, although I know some of the camera software for different platforms operates similarly. I don't recall seeing an XBox game or a PlayStation game yet that requires you to hold a controller like a weapon or at the level you'd have to hold your fists, and actually move with the game to keep your character from getting shot, or punched. The interactivity was new, a hit-or-miss, and I think that Nintendo consumers are very happy with it. I would say focus on the games. Make more of them! Use the motion-based controllers to their greatest potential. Make games that are more in-depth! In my opinion, there's a TON of applications for what the console can currently do; incorporate that into games! Use it to its fullest extent! Even if that means potentially developing new controllers for it, it wouldn't be impossible. Release a software update to tell the console how to interpret different motions and signals from the new control pieces. It could be done... |
